Bible Gateway Verse of the Day
ONCE UPON A TIME..........

"teach me how to live in thy fear, labor in thy service, and ever to run in the ways of thy commandments; make me always watchful over my heart, that neither the terrors of conscience, the loathing of holy duties, the love of sin, nor an unwillingness to depart this life, may cast me into a spiritual slumber, but daily frame me more and more into the likeness of thy son Jesus Christ" George Washington
"I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquility and Union." Abraham Lincoln
Two of our greatest President's Birthdays are being celebrated this month.
2 Presidents who found it, not controversial, but the norm to acknowledge and praise God .
There was a time not too long ago in this nation when every aspect of a persons life; spiritual, personal, and political was founded on the principles of Christianity.
George Washington was also quoted as saying the following,
“What students would learn in American schools above all is the religion of Jesus Christ.”
"It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the bible."
How far we have come in these 250 years. What great advances we have made.
How much like gods we, as a nation, have tried to transform ourselves.
How far from God we, as a nation, have succeeded in removing ourselves.
But the good news is that God has not removed Himself from us.
In almost every major city, in every state in this great nation of ours there is a refuge of hope. A place where people can go when there seems nowhere else to turn. A place where they will see people who are willing to reach out in Love and compassion and share the gifts the Lord has provided, not only for their physical and mental well being, but also for their spiritual health as well.
In Astoria, Oregon that refuge is located in two houses on Bond Street overlooking the Columbia River. It's a place where whosoever can get a meal, a warm place to lay their head for a night, dry clean clothes and whatever else the Lord has blessed us with to share with others.
Also inside those houses you'll find a rare and endangered concept. The unconditional love, care and compassion that can only come from one source. Jesus Christ.
And in Jesus Christ you will find the answer to every hurt, pain, doubt, guilt and addiction that has enslaved all of us at some point in our lives. God can remove all these things and more.
If you ever find yourself in Astoria take a little excursion up Bond Street, find the house with the lit cross, knock on the door, enter in and learn for yourself what it's like to be in the warm and loving presence of God our Father.

Where is God?
Two brothers are terrible trouble makers. They are always breaking things, stealing things, lying, and making all kinds of general trouble. The parents have tried everything to get the boys to change, to no avail. Finally, out of options, they ask their pastor if he can help. He says he will talk to the boys, but only one at a time. The parents drop off the youngest and go home, promising to return to get him soon. The boy sits in a chair across from the pastor's desk and they just look at each other.
Finally, the Pastor says, "Where is God?"
The boy just sits there and doesn't answer.
The pastor begins to look stern and loudly says, "Where is God?"
The little boy shifts in his seat, but still doesn't answer.
The pastor is starting to get angry at the boy's refusal to converse and practically shouts "Where is God?"
To the pastor's surprise, the little boy jumps up out of his chair and runs out of the office.
The boy leaves the church and runs all the way home, up the stairs and into his brother's room. He shuts the door and pants, "We're in BIG TROUBLE. God's missing and they think we did it!"
OH.....
and one more thing...............

OUR MISSION
To meet the needs of the poor and homeless in Clatsop county. The Astoria Rescue Mission is a ministry to the whole person.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
What is the function of the Rescue Mission? To put it in its simplest terms, it is to produce changes in those who come to us. People who come to the Mission do so because they need help. Their lives are not working out as they planned and they need a change. Some look to change their physical circumstance. They need a place to stay or something to eat, which the Mission can provide. Others are looking for a deeper change because of the mess that they have made of their lives.
The message that we present at the Rescue Mission is that Jesus changes lives. For someone without hope this is good news. Another chance at life is an important gift and many that come to the Mission receive it gratefully.
